We used to talk on the site of the benefits of sport. To change a bit I'll talk this time the risks inherent in the sport.
We can differentiate into several categories:
-The acute incidents: micro and macro trauma; the first match inflammation (tendonitis, bursitis, ...) and bruises. The second modification of the normal anatomic architecture (tear, fracture, dislocations).
-L'usure progressive anatomical structures put to use during exercise (particularly osteoarthritis).
-The Accidents related to the sport. As part of the run, this section corresponds almost exclusively to cardiovascular events.
I'll stop here on the cardiovascular risks of physical activity.
Numerous medical studies have shown that physical activity protects the cardiovascular system significantly. A recent study in patients coming to a myocardial infarction, has proven that the resumption of regular physical activity after heart attack saved at least as many lives as almost all the drug treatments used in these patients.
However, physical activity, especially if done in poor conditions and without considering basic precautions can cause incidents or even heart attacks.
The club sports cardiologists has issued 10 recommendations to follow to enjoy your favorite sport safely:
1 / I point my doctor any chest pain or abnormal breathlessness occurs on exertion *
2 / I point my doctor any heart palpitation occur during exercise or immediately after exercise *
3 / I point my doctor any discomfort occurs during exercise or immediately after exercise *
4 / I always respect a warm up and cool down 10 min during my sports
5 / I drink 3-4 sips of water every 30 minutes of exercise in training and in competition
6 / I avoid strenuous activities outside temperatures <- 5 ° or> 30 ° and during peak pollution
7 / I never smoke 1 hour before or 2 hours after a sport
8 / I never consume doping substance and I avoid self-medication in general
9 / I do not do intense sports if I have a fever, or within 8 days following an influenza episode (fever stiffness)
10 / I practice a medical check before continuing intense sports if I have more than 35 years for men and 45 years for women
* Regardless of my age, my fitness levels and performance, or results of a previous cardiological assessment.
So 10 simple rules and easy to implement. To remember that it is never normal to have discomfort or chest pain with exercise or just after. Rules 4 to 10 are "obvious" tips to avoid overloading the cardiac activity during the effort.
All this does not prevent you from running! But it must be done in good conditions. In the same way you watch your sports equipment, take care of your body and your heart!
